If you're feeling disappointed about not having a sandbox for your child to play in, mums on TikTok have come up with a creative solution.
In a viral video, user @ellethevirgo, then @elleannachristine, shared her method of making edible sand for her kids by grinding up Cheerios in a blender.
Although this idea has been circulating on the internet for years, many parents were unaware of it until now.
The TikTok video has garnered over 2.6 million views and has been widely shared among mom groups.
It offers a perfect alternative for parents whose young children might not yet understand that regular sand is not meant for consumption.
One person commented on the clip: “Yess!! So if she accidentally eats the sand it’s ok bc it’s freaking Cheerios!”
Another adds: “This is so damn smart.”
“Wait, what? Holy hell this is genius,” writes a third.
Someone else said: “My mind is literally blown right now.”
The concept has inspired other moms to share their own videos, demonstrating how they make Cheerio sand and provide kitchen items for their kids to play with in the pretend sand.
Overall, this edible sand made from Cheerios presents a fantastic sensory play option for children.
It offers a safe and enjoyable experience, especially for those who may not have access to a traditional sandbox.
The TikTok trend has helped spread awareness about creative play ideas, ensuring that more parents are now equipped with an exciting alternative for their children's sensory playtime.
However, not everyone believed that this was such a good idea.
One concerned mum said: “This teaches babies that eating sand is okay.”
Another chimed in: “I know this is one in a million, but my mother-in-law inhaled Cheerio dust once and got a lung infection.”
“Love this...but wonder if lil ones will think actual sand is edible since it looks similar and they could eat this.”
But @ellethevirgo quickly replied: “I was scared of that too, but I live in Illinois so no sand around here sadly!”
