5 Ways To Get Your Garden Ready For Spring

Now that the weather is *hopefully* starting to warm up, it's time to get your garden ready to enjoy the summer months.

The Big Clean Up

Garden TLC doesn't have to be a chore! Keeping up with regular care can make it a breeze. As you prep for spring and summer, pay attention to fallen leaves and stalks - they can be a sneaky hangout for diseases and bacteria that infect your plants. Don't let them rain on your plant parade!

And if you're sprucing up your patio or deck, a solid sweep and rinse will work wonders. Just be mindful of your plant buddies if you're using cleaning products. 🌿🌻

Trim It Back

Spring's calling and it's time to give your beloved plants the care they deserve! Pruning is a great way to get them blooming again - think buddleia, roses or any other stems that will benefit from being trimmed back. Don't wait for the frosts to have passed yet though; take this chance now to identify which plantings require some TLC in preparation of spring growth. Also don't forget about re-potting those more delicate flowers, and moving them into more sheltered parts of your garden.

PSA: First Cut Sunday is Sunday 26th March 2023! Grass starts growing when the ground starts to warm up, hence spring bringing green grass back to life! Remember: make sure your grass is dry before using a lawnmower and never cut more than a third of the blade of grass in more than one go.

Garden Furniture TLC

Bring your garden furniture back to life! Give plastic pieces a quick spruce up with warm soapy water and sponge. If you have timber products, start with an easy clean before applying the appropriate wood oil for protection from outdoor elements. Let's get that patio looking perfect again!

Reduce, Reuse, Compost

Clearing away organic matter in your garden isn't just good for tidying up - it's also a great opportunity to create compost that can be reused later on! Don't forget to give the hard-working composter a break every spring by turning over its contents. Afterwards, you'll have nutrient-dense mulch perfect for revitalising flower beds. If there ever comes an excess of material however, don’t fret: share some with neighbouring gardens and they would likely welcome the gift gratefully!

Warm Up Your Space

Once you've got the foundations of your garden looking much better, make it even more inviting and transform your space into a cosy spot for nights under the stars. Our patio heaters are just what you need to provide some warmth and make it easier to enjoy those summer evenings. With Al Fresco, you and your guests can now celebrate, dine or simply relax, long after the sun goes down, whatever the weather.
