How to make sloe gin at home
12 November 2021
Ingredients
- 205 ml or ¾ cup plus 2 tbsp gin
- 112 g or ½ cup sloes
- 60 g or ¾ cup sugar
Method
STEP 1
Wash the sloes and pick them over. Pat them dry using a kitchen towel. Place them in a 50 cl bottle.
STEP 2
Add sugar on top and pour gin in the bottle. Seal the bottle tightly and shake it vigorously so that everything is well combined.
STEP 3
Place the bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place.
Shake every day for the next seven days, or all the sugar dissolves.
STEP 4
Store the bottle in a cool and dark place for at least three months so that all the flavours are infused.
STEP 5
Once three months have passed, unseal the bottle and strain it over a sieve lined with cheesecloth. Discard the residue and store the liquid in a clean bottle.
STEP 6
Store this gin for about six months and enjoy.
